Margaret Jankowski started "The Sewing Machine Project" as a grass roots charitable effort to collect and distribute sewing machines. This project started after the devastating tsunami in Southeast Asia and has expanded to New Orleans and other areas of disaster both nationally and internationally. The machines allow people rebuild their lives and their community.
