Alabama Public Television Presents
Moon Landing - German Scientist's Son
Clip: Special | 59s
Axel Hein’s father was part of German team working on rocket propulsion.
Axel Hein’s father, Leo, came to the U.S. from Germany in the second stage of Operation Paperclip and worked on propulsion systems for NASA into the 1980s. Axel says his father didn’t say much about this work at home, but you could tell from his demeanor how the day went: if a rocket test was successful he came home smiling, and if it failed he wore a frown.
